I first wrote the review following this one when I could not get the refills to advance fully in the pen. After reading a few reviews where they discussed the coating that was on the bottom of the refill so it wouldn’t dry out, I inspected the refill again and found that the coating was on the bottom of the shaft as well. Once I scraped all of the coating off the shaft, the refill fit perfectly and wrote well.While these refills are supposed to be compatible with Cross pens, they are slightly shorter. The refill does extend out of the barrel, but only enough so that one needs to hold the pen virtually upright in order to write. Technically still usable.
